Employment Opportunities for Students
DETS has student employment opportunities year round. We are always looking for students who are interested in broadcasting, video production and engineering, and working with us is a great way for Engineering students to sit in on upper level classes. However, being an Engineering major, or having experience in the skills listed above is not required to work for us, full training is provided.

Office Assistant
Office Assistants perform general office duties
such as answering phones, copying, filing, and running errands. In
addition, they distribute course materials and fill-in for Technical
Directors on occasion. Office Assistants are also responsible for
coordinating all incoming and outgoing shipping, some account and
budget tracking and may be asked to supervise other student employees.
- Full training provided.
- Required: Dependability and strong communication skills
- Preferred: Clerical experience
- Starting Pay: $7.00 an hour

Technical Director (TD)
Technical Directors operate the video equipment
used to broadcast courses, provide technology support to faculty,
and facilitate distance students’ learning experience. TDs
can work anywhere from 2—20 hours per week.

- Required: Dependability and punctuality
- Preferred: Interest or experience in video production
- Starting Pay: $7.00 an hour

Engineering Technician (ET)
The Engineering Technician fulfills
technical responsibilities including the operation of broadcast and
tape duplication equipment, digital capture equipment, assisting
clients and faculty, monitoring program quality, filling in for other
positions as needed as well as other duties as assigned. This person
would work in the evenings and would assist and report to the Coordinator.
- Full training provided.
- Required: At least 2 semester experience as a Technical Director. Dependability, strong communication skills and a mature work ethic. Must be able to work 2 evenings a week from 4—10pm.
- Preferred: Interest or experience in broadcasting/TV/engineering/distance education.
- Starting Pay: $8.50 an hour

Minimum Hours
We would like students who apply with us to
be able to work a minimum of 6 hours a week in order to give us more
flexibility with scheduling. However, students can work a maximum
of 20 hours per week if the hours fit in with our schedule.
Raises
Each student is eligible for up to a $0.50 an hour increase per
semester. Raises are based on merit and skill and are given at the
discretion of the supervisor.
